Major Midget Voyageurs winning streak comes to and end
After a strong start in the pre-season, the Major Midget team ended their exhibition games with back to back losses against the Ottawa Senators. On Saturday afternoon, the Voyageurs suffered their first loss 6-3 on home ice. The goal scorers were Tristan Salesse, Hugo Petit and Nicholas Ford. The boys were back on the ice Sunday evening in Ottawa where they lost by a score of 5-3. Gadel Gumerov, Matt Clement and Justin Haasbeek were the players that beat the Sens keeper. The team finished its pre-season with a record of 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.
The CIHA Voyageurs will be hosting the season opener for the entire OEMHL Major Midget League by welcoming the Ottawa 67's on Thursday night at 8:00 pm.
Major Midget remains undefeated in pre-season!
Thursday night the Major Midget continued their preparation in pre-season by winning their second game 4-2 over the Eastern Ontario Wild. There was no scoring after the first period. In the second period, Gadel Gumerov openend the scoring followed by Michael Ryf. The Wild was able to close the gap by adding one before the break. The Wild continued to dictate the play in the first half of the third and scored the equalizer. The Voyageurs finally took the momentum away in the second half and were able to capitalize on the power play with a goal by Matt Clement. Seiya Hayata added the insurance goal late in the game. It was also a 4 points night for Paolo Digenova who contributed with 4 assists.
The pre-season record now stands at 2 wins and 1 tie. The team will play 2 games in 2 days as they'll face the Ottawa Jr. Sens.
Minor Midget loses 4-2 against 67's
The Voyageurs opened up the scoring in the first period when Curtis Scales found the back of the net Chiwetin Blacksmith quickly added to the Voyageurs lead by getting the second goal of the game. Although the Voyageurs had many shots on net, they couldn’t capitalize their opportunities and the score was 3-2 after the second period for the opposing team. The 67’s sealed the win in the third period scoring on the power play.
The Minor Midget team are back in action this week playing 3 league games.
Minor Midget Voyageurs finish their pre-season strong!
In their last exhibition game, the Minor Midget tied the Ottawa Valley Titans 2-2. According to head coach Alain Raymond, his team played one of their best games thus far. The team moved the puck well creating great scoring chances allowing them to take a 2-0 lead in the first period. However, the Ottawa Valley Titans came back strong in the second period scoring two consecutive goals to tie the game. Even though the last period was scoreless, the Voyageurs had great D-Zone coverage and had a lot of scoring opportunities.
Playing in goal was Conor McCarthy while Jack Kilgour and Nick Roberts were the goal scorers
Major Midget Voyageurs erupt in third period to tie 4-4!
The Major Midget team continued their pre-season preparation with a 4-4 tie versus the Upper Canada Cyclones. After the first 15 minutes, the Cyclones took a 2-0 lead, but Leny Montes managed to beat the Upper Canada goaltender to pull within one goal. Just before the end of the second period, the Cyclones added a goal increasing their lead to 3-1. The Cyclones scored again at the beginning of the third period and made it a 4-1 game. However, an open ice hit by Kohei Sato changed the momentum for the Voyageurs as Hugo Petit, Tristan Salesse and Gadel Gumerov (PPG) scored three unanswered goal. Connor Smith made solid saves near the end of the game to preserve the tie. The Voyageurs are back in action tonight to take on the Eastern Ontario Wild.
Former NHL player Andre Savage joins CIH Academy’s coaching staff
We are pleased to announce that former NHL player Andre Savage will be joining our coaching staff as assistant coach of the Minor Midget team. The experience he possesses and his knowledge of the game will definitely be beneficial for our student-athletes.
Andre Savage gained significant experience having played in many professional leagues. Although he was never a draft pick, his good skating and passing skills got him noticed and he was signed as a free agent by the Boston Bruins organization. He played a total of 50 NHL games with the Bruins over the course of three seasons, scoring eight goals and 21 points.
He also played two seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers before going to the AHL with the Providence Bruins. He spent the rest of his hockey career playing in Europe in the DEL.
He is a great addition to the CIHA coaching staff and we are fortunate to have him with us!
Stoney Creek Showcase Recap - Great performance overall!
September 10, 2012 - The women's team opened up their Stoney Creek Showcase with a tough 3-0 loss to the defending Champions, the Thunder Bay Queens. The Girls got great goaltending from Tanya Winchcombe to keep it 1-0 after two periods, but a few costly turnovers proved to be the difference in this game.
Following this game the Girls were up against another strong opponent the Kitchener Rangers. The girls carried the play throughout the second period and during overtime but they couldn’t capitalize on scoring chances. This very tight game ended 0-0.
The girls lost 3-0 Saturday morning to the eventual tournament finalists, the Whitby Wolves. The Girls drew Nepean in the quarter-final crossover and received more strong defensive play from the D core, including a 2 minute 5-on-3 penalty kill to keep the game within reach. A very tight game ended in a 1-0 loss in what proved to be the first of many tight games against the Wildcats this season.
CIHA Minor Midget Voyageurs defeat OHA 7-4 in last exhibition game!
September 10, 2012 - Yesterday afternoon, the Minor Midget team was playing for the second time against OHA and won 7-4. The Voyageurs had a slow start trailing by 1 in the first period, but everyone came together and played a better second period. Even though they were still behind in the third period, the players managed to score 7 goals and secure the win! Curtis Scales scored a hat-trick; Nathan Sanderson had 2 goals, while Kilgour and Blacksmith each had a goal.
Major Midget wins pre-season opener
September 6, 2012 - Last night, the Major Midget Voyageurs opened their pre-season schedule with a strong 3-1 win against the Ottawa Valley Titans. Michael Ryf opened the scoring in the first, while Max Lahaie scored a highlight reel goal on the powerplay in the second period. Leny Montes secured the win by adding the insurance goal in the third. The duo of Benjamin Patt and Connor Smith stopped 27 of 28 shots with Connor stopping all 18 shots fired his way.
Head coach, Guy Girouard and the coaching staff were very pleased with the team’s effort.
