International Athletes

Studying abroad is an enriching and exciting adventure for students and their families. The CIH Academy provides girls and boys with many opportunities to reach their potential in hockey and in life.

While living at CIH Academy, international athletes immerse themselves in a new culture and build confidence, master a challenging program and receive expert training and coaching, helping them reach their childhood dreams of playing hockey at an elite level. They will build enduring friendships and receive the gift of independence that enables them to develop into unique and caring individuals.

What is the process?

International athletes must complete governmental documents to attend school in Canada. You must first apply for a study permit if you are considering enrolling in a Canadian school. Find out what is required for your child by contacting your nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate. You can find the information by visiting Citizenship and Immigration Canada on the web at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/student.asp.

Once a student Visa has been granted, the government office will issue a “confirmation letter” to be presented at your first port of entry into Canada. Immigration Canada will replace the letter with a “study permit”. They will place it in the student’s passport and it will be valid for one full year.

With our hockey teams travelling to U.S.A. cities to participate in tournaments, you have to contact the U.S. Embassy nearest you and apply for a “Visitors Visa” for your child. This document will allow crossing the Canadian border into the United States. It is very difficult for an international student to apply for a U.S. Visitors Visa while in Canada; therefore this document needs to be processed in the student’s home country.

The student may be required to undergo a medical examination in order to attend school in Canada. Again the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate will help with the proceedings. Visit the following website for information. http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx

Health, Medical and Dental coverage for international athletes is provided by the CIH Academy through an affiliated insurance company. Also covered under the plan are physiotherapy, chiropractor, massage and prescriptions.
