Training

The elite training program at CIH Academy ensures that players experience the best of cutting-edge hockey training techniques.

Athletes train daily in our state-of-the-art pro-style facilities located directly on campus. The facilities, complete with drying rooms and other pro-style amenities, are designed to maximize the amount of time students spend learning and playing hockey.

Daily hockey-related activities include on-ice practices 4-5 times per week based on other on-ice commitments (games), along with off-ice workouts that focus on conditioning and improving the body and mind.

Under the guidance of our coaches and trainers, players at CIH Academy develop their skills and techniques including:

  • individual offensive skills
  • situational play
  • body coordination
  • passing and variations
  • stick handling in a range of directions
  • speed and agility
  • attacking the defensive player, triangle attacks, faking, and speed shifts
  • acceleration skating techniques, edge control, power starts, Russian stop and go
  • receiving and giving body checks
  • gap and speed control, "read and react" situational play for offense and defence
  • turn backs
  • scoring strategies
  • creative thinking using small area games

On our beautiful outdoor campus and in our fitness centre, complete with the newest, most advanced equipment available, players participate in complete off-ice training using the latest techniques to maximize their physical and mental strengths.

Off-ice workout techniques include plyometrics, a type of exercise training designed to maximize muscle output and improve the body's muscle structure. Plyometrics are utilized by top athletes to increase their strength and speed. Players will also use training techniques such as weight training to increase strength and promote good form, stick-handling practices, agility training, video analysis sessions, and nutrition education.  The comprehensive training program delivers premier hockey  to  serious  players about competitive hockey, preparing them for success on the ice as well as in life. Programs consultants and guest speakers also make up part of the program to talk about motivation, focus, nutrition, college versus junior programs, and agents.
