The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) provides the academic education through the TR Leger School located at the Canadian International Hockey Academy. By enrolling in a public school board, athletes are guaranteed to meet the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education for earning the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), a well-respected high school diploma recognized at universities and colleges throughout Canada, the United States, and worldwide.
The UCDSB’s unique program consists of both traditional classes and self-paced Independent Learning Modules (ILM) as well as E-learning, all facilitated by qualified and certified teachers. In ILM, student/athletes work individually at their own pace on courses developed and approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education. UCDSB teachers and administrators monitor their progress through the lesson plans. Working independently allows students the opportunity to engage with a variety of advanced subjects and material, while the small class size and teacher-to-student ratio allows teachers to give students the quality one-on-one in-class assistance they deserve.
Each classroom includes designated study rooms for small group collaborations on projects and lessons, allowing students to interact with their peers in constructive, educational ways.
Students also need to complete forty hours of community service during their high school career in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines which can be done through on campus volunteer opportunities.
